Advance your software development career

Oct 30, 2019

Unity 5 is a technology company based in Southwest England that has grown exponentially in the last few years. The success is primarily due to its flagship software products ZatPark and ZatMobile firmly establishing the company as a market leader in parking enforcement and management software.

From its base in the Devon countryside on the outskirts of Exeter, Unity 5 designs, develops and supports its software solutions in-house that follow the ‘Software as a Service’ cloud hosted model of service delivery to its customers.

Founder & Director Lukasz Kieruczenko explains ‘The availability of reliable highly resilient and scalable cloud based service delivery platforms has made a huge positive impact on how service delivery companies like us provide applications to end users. It removes the need for customers to invest in expensive IT infrastructure such as servers and bespoke software, and with the advent of broadband means that businesses can access their mission critical applications via a simple Internet connection from almost anywhere.’

Unity 5 has capitalised on this method of service delivery adopting the ‘SaaS’ model that has allowed it to expand rapidly in recent years and seen an exponential growth in revenue.

We don’t outsource

Lukasz continues: ‘Adopting cloud technologies has allowed us to expand, supporting all our customers big and small across the UK and Ireland from our headquarters in Devon. Our service requires no bespoke hardware or software to be installed at our customer sites meaning we can manage all our customers remotely. Our platform provides all the software tools we need to dynamically manage and scale resources in real-time as customer demand ebbs and flows, helping us to deliver great service very cost efficiently.’

Unity 5 began in 2010 and designs, develops, manages and supports its customers in-house. ‘It’s important to us that we maintain control of the end-to-end service delivery to our customers. It helps us to be agile in responding to feature requests and changes in legislation that affect our customer businesses helping them to remain competitive.’

Software development is in our DNA

A key part of the company’s success is down to attracting the best software developers as Chief Operations Officer Celina Hertbert acknowledges. ‘Software development is in the company’s DNA and we are always looking for good software engineers to expand our team.’

‘We do our best to make Unity 5 a fun and rewarding place to work with initiatives including the popular ‘Pizza Tuesday’, fitness sessions, office bbqs and a good package of perks including private healthcare and remote/home working. We value our staff and want them to stay, be happy and develop their career. We’ve also reached out to some local schools and colleges helping to develop their students and enhance their computer science based courses so that the skills they are taught are relevant to today’s business.’

Thoughts on the Quarter – Summer 2022

It’s been a very busy quarter, particularly in terms of industry events, the biggest of which, Parkex, took place in early June and we were delighted to exhibit there again. The BPA's flagship conference and exhibition was back after a two-year hiatus and the ZatPark...
